Do you have a child or grandchild under 13?  Do they ride with you in your car?  If yes, then this article is for you.  I provide some useful information to help make sure you are using the right child car seat and installing it properly.

Did you know that the number one killer of children from ages 1 through 12 is car crashes?[1]  This week is Child Passenger Safety Week, a time to highlight the importance of having the right car seat for your child or grandchild.  When used correctly, a child car seat is the best tool to keep our children safe on the road.

Do you drive to work in the morning?  Has school started in your city? If you answered “Yes” to these two questions, then this article is for you.  Everywhere in the United States our youth are going back to school after a summer of fun and excitement.  With children walking to school, riding bicycles or on the school bus, we need to remain alert to the dangers so no child is injured, or worse, killed.  It is time to refocus our attention while driving.  The National Safety Council has developed a number of important tips for motorists and “Back to School.”

With summer here, more children and pets are dying from heatstroke and these tragedies are 100% preventable. This article provides easy tips to ensure it doesn’t happen to your child or pet.

Heatstroke can happen anytime during the year, but it is more frequent during the summer. Since 1998 there have been at least 582 cases of children dying in vehicles because of heatstroke, with more than half under two years old. In 2012 there were 33 heatstroke deaths, with 21 so far in 2013. From 1998 to 2012, 29% of the heatstroke deaths happened because the child got into the car unattended to play.  According to NHTSA, heatstroke is the leading cause of non-crash vehicle fatalities for children 14 and under. On average, a child dies in a car from heatstroke every 10 days. There are no statistics on how many pets, typically dogs, die in a car from heatstroke, but there are news stories about it on a regular basis.  Read the full article >>
